About Luis Disla

If you’re one of those Latin Jazz fans who’ve been wondering who and where the most engaging solo voices of the genre currently are, look no further—welcome to the extraordinarily multi-colored musical world of saxophonist/flutist, producer, arranger, composer, educator and Grammy nominated artist Luis Disla! Of all the various hats that this artist has worn, his debut project as a solo artist/instrumentalist/composer/arranger is the culmination of a rich musical journey and easily his most accomplished and compelling personal musical expression, which is abundantly demonstrated on his new CD release, The Prophecy.

A graduate of Berklee College Of Music in Boston, Luis has worked with a multitude of top artists such as Celia Cruz, Tito Puente, Kirsty MacColl, Victor Manuelle, Mongo Santamaria, Mario Bauza, Juan Luis Guerra, the Tropicana All Stars, Israel Lopez (Cachao), Carlos Santana, Wyclef Jean, Tabou Combo, Nestor Torres, El General, Fulanito, Jaime Camil, Jennifer Peña, Area 305, Noelia, Armando Manzanero, Rey Ruiz, José Luis Rodriguez "El Puma" and José José, among others. He has appeared on over 250 recordings, including commercials for Burger King and Budweiser Beer, on the sound track of the film I Like It Like That (along with Grover Washington Jr., Sergio George, Tito Puente, Ray Barreto, Paquito D'Rivera and Dave Valentin), and on an episode of Showtime’s Dexter.

On The Prophecy Luis displays his abundant arsenal of talents to their fullest: as an instrumentalist, playing alto, tenor, soprano and baritone saxes and flute; as a composer, writing all the tracks except two; and as an arranger and producer. Also featured with Luis on The Prophecy is a host of Jazz and Latin heavy hitters including Jorge Luis Sosa, Leo Quintero, Abraham Laboriel, Alex Acuña, Steve Gadd, Julio Diaz, Jorge Dobal, Richard Bravo, Paul Hoyle, and special guests Tito Puente Jr. and Nestor Torres—and what a team this group of seasoned pros make! Rather than relying on their laurels, all virtuosos in their own right, these players create a seamless whole while driving and supporting the tracks in an extraordinarily fluid fashion. Their conception and execution is flawless with flashes of polyrhythmic brilliance and virtuosic solos throughout; all framed in imaginative, yet seductively subtle, arrangements.

The Prophecy is a soundscape of vibrant sounds with a contagious and lush sensibility. At the same time, it is a sparkling preview of what Luis Disla is capable of live. Putting on The Prophecy for an intimate evening or a sophisticated gathering is a sure bet, but seeing this talented performer in-person clearly establishes just how soulful and engaging Luis is. This veteran player connects with his audience in a very direct and poignant fashion, telling his musical stories with precision, imagination, emotion and wit, and once one hears his music, it is impossible to forget the singular and life-affirming musical voice of Luis Disla.

Contact: Janet Castiel

                Redwood Entertainment, Inc.
