About Protege

Nicole White, known to the music world as Protégée, is a multi-dimensional artist with superstar potential and an understanding of change.

Being taught strong morals and strength by her mother, and a sense of her own style by the music game, Protégée has tackled the music industry head on. “I won’t stop until I am on top.” says Protégée. “I have evolved from ‘the girl with the beats who can rap,’ to ‘Nikki Smoove,’ to ‘Smoove Protégée,’ to now ‘Protégée.’ The minute someone thinks they know what to expect from me, think again.”

Along with being a talented rapper, Protégée’s life journey has brought her to being a Music Heritage Award winner for best new artist, a model, a college graduate, and a recording label CEO. Having this diverse talent has proven to be an asset in launching Protégée to the top!

In November of 2004, Protégée released a maxi single for her popular song “Still Gutta.” The release of this single gained her great attention in popular hip-hop magazines and websites such as: Streethop.com, Riding Big Magazine, Urban Magazine, Hip-Hop Club, The Lookout, The MN Women’s Press, UK magazine “Fusion”, Italy/UK online magazine And that’s not it. In 2005, Protégée recorded 3 hot collaboration tracks with Florida Native M.A.D.P.O. (Wilderness Records). The two have been seen on popular Florida television shows “Word on da Street” and “CTG -TV”

In May of 2005, Protégée contributed two songs for the highly praised classic “X Chromosome All Female Mix tape” which was distributed by Baltimore based label X9 Records, and sold over 21,000 units worldwide within it’s first month of release. The year also brought an abundance of modeling success such as runway shows for Bloomingdales, Wal-Mart, and Stormm International, being the face of Target’s Spring Urban Fashion, posing for the elegant clothing line “Vandalism Designs” (Minneapolis, MN), rocking the best of hip-hop ware for urban clothing line “UM&F” (Minneapolis, MN), and being a face model for MAC freelance make-up artists.

2006 was not far behind in the success tally. Interviews in Inbox Magazine (St. Louis), Extreme Entertainment Magazine (MN), Mic’d Magazine Online, Gangsta’s Magazine (Italy), and HitQuarters kept Protégée’s name and image in the lime light. Other triumphs included performing to sold out crowds at Myth Night Club, Spirell Bar, the historic First Avenue 7th Street Entry, and performing theatrical monologues on stage with Vivica A. Foxx, Tracee Ellis Ross, Claudia Jordan, and India Arie at The Gathering LIVE!

2007 is also shaping up to be another year of great accomplishment. Totaling 9,787 (and still going) download sales of her music, her new album "The Novel: Glitter and Gutta" being released on iTunes, Sony Connect, Rhapsody, and Napster, reaching #3 on the radio charts in Belgium, an up-coming interview in Midwest Flavaz Magazine, featuring on a mix tape with DJ Green Lantern, presenting awards at the 2007 Donnie Smith Invitational. She has a book and a CD "Glitta and Gutta" out and currently models Target. Hard work and tenacity have payed off for Pro in all of her endeavors. She is ready to embark on a european tour and WOW audiences across the water.
