About Sibu

I was born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, into a very musical family, where both parents were musical. My mother was a church choir conductor, she sang in the family group and she played the guitar. I started singing on stage, with my mother, when I was about 3yrs and I joined my mother's youth choir at the age of 5. I started school at the age of 4, at Nichols Lower primary, went on to Maritzburg Christian School, Pelham and Pietermaritzburg Girl's High School. After high School, I went to University of Durban - Westville, where I did my BCom Law degree.

I have always known that I wanted to sing for the rest of my life. The day I knew for sure, was when I was singing at church and people's response was so warming, that confirmed it. I grew up listening to a whole range of people and I can not say who specifically inspires me.

I listen mainly to gospel and jazz and my current favourites are Ernie Smith, Jonathan Butler, Sibongile Khumalo, Malaika, etc. I practice, and sing along to every song I know. My best performance was at my friends wedding and my worst was another friend 's wedding. The most interesting place where I have performed was at the first lady's party. The one thing that made me decide to finally follow my dream, was my passion to inspire and to connect with people's emotions. I believe that music is medicine to sooth souls.

I am a born again Christian and believe my music is part of God's purpose for my life.
